More about Felt...

Wool and other animal fibres are covered in microscopic scales which pull and lock together irreversibly with the combination of moisture, heat and friction - that’s why your woollies will shrink on a hot wash. It’s thought the process was discovered when wool was used to pad leather boots to protect from blisters. After a long march the wool turned into felt socks due to the sweat, warmth and friction caused by walking.
